KICK IT UP 2019

Registration is closed for this event
Kick It Up is a 5 day precision dance summer intensive featuring a professional teaching faculty who will offer 30 hours of training in ballet, jazz, tap and precision technique for dancers age 7 and up. Elective classes include modern, hip hop, acrobatics and musical theater. Partnering with Appalachian State University, dancers enjoy training on campus. Our final day of classes include a friends and family showcase as well as an optional audition for The Carolina Snowbelles precision dance company.

Welcome to Kick It Up 2019!  During registration you will be asked to fill out a simple form.  As we get closer to the event, you'll receive a more details questionairre that will include your dancer's name and other information that we need to gather in order to prepare for our week.

HOUSING: For assiatance w/ housing email info@projectdance.com.

CHANGING ROOMS: There are locker rooms on the floor below the studios. Dancers may also bring a combination or pad-lock to lock up their street clothes, or you  may place them in studio to the side.

WATER: There is a water fountain outside the studios, but dancers will want to bring a water bottle with them. Depending on the weather, it will be warm in the studios! There are plenty of fans, but it is not air-conditioned. So you might want to bring a towel for sweat, too.

FIRST AID KITS: Will be stocked with band-aids, tape and gauze, neosporin, etc. (doubt we’ll need this but it’s good to know)

STUDIO RULES: Pretty simple: No street shoes, and no food/drink in the studios. Water bottles are fine, though. Students should NOT use the Pilates/Gyrokinesis Studio (it should be locked, but just-in-case.)

WHAT TO WEAR: Dancers should arrive in dance clothes underneath their street clothes.  Pink or Tan Tights/Solid Colored Leotard/Hair in Bun or Twist (no pony tails or fly away hair please).  If you have very short hair that will not fit into a bun, please pin the front of your hair back and away from your face.  You will also need ballet, tap and jazz shoes.  If you have character heels and heel taps, please bring those but do not buy them just for this workshop.  Feel free to bring warm up clothes for your break times if needed.  Please email me with any concerns or questions regarding attire.

FOOD: The Central Dining Hall will be open during our intensive, however, you are welcome to bring your lunch daily.  If you are still hungry after our workshop, feel free to grab something on the way out. There is plenty of seating indoors.

AUDITION OPPORTUNITIES:  On Saturday, we will have an audition for The Carolina Snowbelles.  This is a precision dance company comprised of dancers age 10 and up.  Currently, we are looking for new members to join us for upcoming appearances and performances.  The Snowbelles is a 100% scholarship program that is designed to offer aspiring dancers training in the unique style of precision dance.  In order to become a member, you must be currently enrolled in a dance program where you are receiving classes in ballet, tap and jazz.

SPECIAL EVENTS: This year we are hosting 2 special events.  On Thursday June 28 we will host an OUTDOOR ADVENTURE HIKE guided by the hiking director for West Glow Spa and Resort.  And, on Friday June 29 at 6:00pm we will host a STUDENT SHOWCASE.  Participating dancers may share a piece with their peers and friends and family.  Many of you have already signed up for 1 or both of these events.  You will have an opportunity to sign up onsite when you arrive on Tuesday June 26.

PARKING: As you might know, parking is a bit expensive for visitors on campus.  If folks park in the Rivers Street Parking Deck (the only real option for visitors during the day), it will cost them $10/day for the full day.  For those who are driving and need to park for the entire class time, there will be $3 parking passes available to you on the first day of class.  However, I need an RSVP from you in order to process the pass.  See paragraph below for DROP OFF option.  Attached is a map of the campus area.

To find us: Varsity Gym is located directly across from the parking deck on Rivers Street and is connected to Roess Dining Facility. Park in the deck, and take the walking bridge from the 2nd floor to cross Rivers Street and go through the dining facility’s main lobby to the other outside doors. You will find the Varsity Gym doors on your left.  Enter and go down one flight of stairs to another set of double doors to the dance area. Straight ahead is the dance studio, Room 208. You can also drop off and pick up by the stairs to Varsity Gym near the loading dock facing Rivers Street, and from there, walk around to the back of the building and enter through the main lobby. If the gym doors near the loading dock are open, you can also walk through the gym and look for stairs on your right. Go up one flight.
